Here are some pictures of my classroom from this year!
In my class we call sight words "heart words" (because they are words you need to know by heart!) I have a heart word walk on the floor of my class with the words in order of how we learn them. We use this as a center where students pick a word then match it to a word on the heart word walk.
I also use the heart word walk to track the words that my students can read. When they can read all the words in one color, they get that color heart on the bulletin board. The words that they are working on are on an index card before their picture.
I keep a writing binder for each student and add their work to the binder as they finish it. It helps me stay organized instead of having big piles of paper around, and kids are so excited to take all of their writing home at the end of the year. It is also a great way to highlight writing progress to parents.
To reinforce place value, we keep track of the number of books we have read in a binder. Each time we read another book, we add that to the number we have read, and we build it with 10s frames. We are already at 172 in 96 days of school!
I track my students STEP reading levels on a bulletin board. They are so motivated to move up to the next level!
